The Summer of 2022 has flown by at an almost wreckless rate, with days, weeks and months seemingly blending into one long hot, sweaty haze of a fever dream that sometimes I wonder ever happened at all. Getting out with my camera outside of my trips abroad and family and friend meet-ups seemed to happen more and more infrequently as the days went on, which means this blog is a kind of a bare bones amalgamation of some images taken across May through until August. Lets just say the word ‘ busy’ is an understatement.
Let’s Kick things off then with a trip back to the month of May and some almost forgotten photos taken at the Eden Project - A place I had been interested in visiting for a long time.
EDEN PROJECT
Given the shape and size of the Eden Project, it was only right that at the end of my visit I let the Drone up to see how this unique building looks from the air.
CORNWALL
Trips to Cornwall happened sporadically over the summer months with trips to Newquay and my parents giving me some opportunities to take to the beaches with my camera at my side.
As well as people watching, I was lucky enough on one such beach visit to get close enough to photograph a Rock Pipit as it hunted sand flies along the beach.
BRISTOL
Back in Bristol for some heatwave madness that culminated in something like 34 degrees hitting the UK and keeping my pale skin well and truly to the shade. I did however venture out like a maniac to the harbour festival on one such sizzlingly hot day to take some photos around the harbourside there.
The continuous heat even lead to a false Autumn, with the trees shedding their leaves early like this image below shows (taken in early August). The contrast of the yellow and the green showing just how stressed some of the trees became during the heatwave.
BRISTOL ZOO
Rounding off this blog with one last trip to Bristol Zoo which is closing its doors for good at the end of this summer. A place I have visited frequently over the years and in particular when I first moved to Bristol back in 2017. My house was just around the corner from the zoo so the evening lion chorus became a familiar sound to me that even after 3 years of living there never got old. I also used the zoo for practice when I would have a wedding or event coming up, sharpening my skills on the animals there and producing some great images while doing so.
My final visit to the zoo involved guiding a toddler around which sort of brings things full circle in a way as I imagined how my parents felt as I dragged them around the zoo back in the day. I guess it was some form of Karma as having a toddler with you makes things difficult to say the least. These photos taken were very much on the fly, with very little time to stop and compose a shot but the Fujifilm X-T4 and the Fujifilm XF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens did a great job anyway.
A house renovation project awaits me in the Autumn so finding time to take the camera out may continue to be a struggle. Hopefully though I will be able to keep taking my cameras out and capturing more photos to put up on here. Lets hope I can fit it all in….
